Lonesome Bones

LONESOME BONES (2005-2010) In these pieces ( through oil, ink, and collage on wood, plaster, and canvas), the body was my first threshold. I made these during a nomadic era of my life, mostly on the move between Baltimore and Moab, in a stretch when I was trying to work out who and what I was, drawn to the messiness of the inside. In the early ones the wild shows through from within the figure: exposed rib cages, a spine rising over rooftops, a star burst of teeth. Later it moves outside her, with the bee hovering at eye level, or a dark field… encounters that don’t seem to resolve.
